In 1972, a group of four individuals purchased Claypool Distributing Company from Claypool and Company, a Needles, California, based company. The investors were Bill Claypool, Jim Claypool, Tom Claypool and Dick Clayton. At the time, Claypool Distributing Company sold Coors Beer and Gallo Wine for the Imperial Valley, Blythe and Needles, California markets.
In 1977, Claypool Distributing Company built its currently facility in Imperial California. It was built with the idea of growth in mind.
In 1985, Claypool Distributing Company purchased the distribution rights for Miller, Stroh, Heineken and other brands from Paul Trapnell, Inc. This was the first time a Coors Distributor was given the rights to sell Miller, in Southern California. It was truly a historic event. It was the first of many distributing company consolidations that has changed the industry.
Since 1985, there have been several developments. Tom Claypool purchased the ownership shares from the original partners. He and his wife Toni are now the sole shareholders of the company. Claypool Distributing Company consolidated its operations into its main facility located in the Imperial Valley.
